There are two kinds of certifications bestowed upon a certified used car: Gold and Silver. For a vehicle to be Gold Certified, it must meet the following criteria:
- It is less than six years old and has less than 85,000 miles on it
- Successfully underwent a 160-point assurance inspection
When you buy a Gold Certified pre-owned car, it will come with:
- A free CARFAX history report
- Comprehensive warranty for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty for the first seven years or 100,000 miles
- 24-hour roadside assistance for the first seven years or 100,000 miles
- Standard new car financing rate options
- Extended warranty coverage at no extra cost
- A warranty that’s accepted and honored at over 1,400 Toyota dealerships throughout the country
You will also receive trouble-free handling of the purchase transaction, including any required DMV paperwork.
Silver Certification has a few key differences to keep in mind. For a Toyota-brand vehicle to become Silver Certified, it must meet the following criteria:
- It is 10 years old or younger and has a minimum of 60,000 miles on it but less than 125,000 miles
- Successfully underwent a 136-point assurance inspection
It’s important to keep in mind that per Toyota, the Silver certification program hasn’t been released yet as of publication. However, when it is, it will include:

- Transferable extended warranty coverage at no extra cost
